Deshi:  You say that if we do not have a pure heart we cannot have pure technique.  You make it sound as if one leads to the other.

Sensei:  Yes, I believe it is this way.

Deshi:  Can we go the other way - can we go from technique to pure heart?

Sensei:  No.
