Spontaneous Training

This clip shows one of the beginner drills we use in order to cultivate spontaneity of movement.  It is executed here at slow to moderate speed.  The drill utilizes a three-count rhythm, made up of any offensive or defensive action, to which a practitioner tactically responds in a manner deemed appropriate by what is considered tactically valid.  Neither practitioner is aware of what their partner is attempting.  There are no winners or losers in the drill.  Both practitioners seek to immerse themselves in the training by utilizing, breaking, or negating the three-count rhythm in any way they see fit according to the art’s own strategic considerations.  The cultivation of “sensitivity” is primary to the training in this drill.  Sensitivity, a codependent of Non-Resistance, allows a practitioner to “know” what his or her opponent can and/or cannot attempt, or is and/or is not attempting, tactically. Training Partners: Sean Sanders - Nikyu; Anthony Racelli - Sankyu; Michael Harris - Sankyu. (3 minutes, 34 seconds)
