Suwari Waza Ryote-dori Kokyu-ho
The various Kokyu-ho devices of Aikido can be understood as simplified waza. They are psychophysical means of first amplifying one’s lack of body-mind-breath coordination and then of cultivating that coordination. With the coordination of body, mind, and breath, a practitioner seeks to develop a relaxation that is not yielding and a heaviness that is not sluggish. These traits are particularly developed in the seated versions of Kokyu-ho. In Time, one’s technical architectures and/or spontaneous expressions of the art come to demonstrate the positive relaxation and dynamic heaviness that is being cultivated in Kokyu-ho.
